Yesterday was my last day on the pulpit for over 3 months. It felt very strange as I said my goodbyes at our church end of summer picnic. There was a sense of finality that I did not expect to feel. I miss my congregation already and cannot wait to be back with them in January.
I just picked up the last of the supplies I am going to need for my trip (portable fuel, waterproof socks, etc.). I think I am ready. I Looked over my itinerary again yesterday and ran off a few maps off the web for some excursions off my map set I am using.
Two more days with my family and then 5 looooong weeks without seeing them. Terrible feeling! Miss them already.
Tip tomorrow...

OK, so my mother gave me this book several weeks ago and I started reading it a couple of days ago. It is all about this bike fanatic building his dream bike. It weaves in stories of his touring adventures (he has cycled on every continent and around the globe in terms of miles!) and his life which has revolved around 'the bike.' It is terribly interesting, especially since I will be living "life" on my bike for 37+ days starting next Wednesday.
More on this as I read...

Family

I can tell that missing my family will be the single hardest issue to deal with. Yesterday was the first day of school (first day ever for my Son Jack!). It was a day filled with joy and sadness. Just 7 days away from departure now.

Nervous and Excited

OK, people have been asking me how I am feeling about my "impending" ride. Well, I am both nervous abd excited. Excited to get on the road and fulfill a dream of mine that few have ever been able to fulfill. Yet at the same time nervous. Not so much for safty or weather, but because of the solitude. I am looking forward to an extended time of reflection and introspection, but I am primarily a social people-person. Lonliness on the road is what I am most concerned about.
I certainly would not have had this problem if my brother in law, Ben, had not become pregnant (well, not him but his wife). What an inconvenience (touch in cheek)! He was planning on biking a couple of weeks with me and had to back out earlier this year.
So, pray for me that I will have some great time alone with the Lord as well as for lonliness on the road.
Thanks and keep checking the blog. I'll be writing daily from the road
In Christ,
Blake
